This presentation will review costly, yet easily preventable errors found in benefit plan operations (by DOL and IRS investigators and independent auditors) along with practical advice on how to avoid the errors in the first place and the costly consequences of lack of compliance. We will also review what auditors are looking for in a Plan’s annual financial statement audit and how to avoid painful change of scope fees.

Jessica Friedly, Audit Director, has been a consistent positive force in the Employee Benefit Plan Practice since joining the ACM team in January of 2005. Jessica has a broad base of experience in auditing defined benefit pension plans, health and welfare plans, and defined contribution plans and extensive Form 5500 preparation services. Prior to beginning her public accounting career Jessica worked in private industry assisting in internal accounting functions. She has served a variety of industries including specializing in employee benefit plan audits. Jessica serves on the board of the Western Pension & Benefits Council. Jessica received her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Denver.

Erin Breit, Audit Director, started in public accounting in 2004 and began devoting her full attention to the Employee Benefit Plan Practice in 2005. Erin has a broad base of experience and has served a variety of industries including specializing in employee benefit plan audits in oil & gas, energy, service industries, telecom, and professional services industries. She has worked extensively with defined contribution plans including 5500 preparation and has works closely with her clients to help them navigate through complexities such as a change in service provider, plan mergers, spin-offs and terminations. Erin has been a valuable member of the ACM team since December of 2006 and has been recognized on a company-wide basis for her valuable contributions. She serves on the Board of Florence Crittenton Services. Erin received her three Bachelor degrees in Accounting, Economics, and Operations Quality Management from the University of Maryland.
